From The Desk of
Dr. Grace E. Olugbodi
London,
United Kingdom.
Dear Concerned Parent,
I fell in love with Maths as a child.
I wasn’t naturally gifted but with help from my parents who made math fun by presenting it to me in a creative way, I was able to rise above my limitations.
This took away the fear and confusion I was already developing at the time and my love affair with Maths is what is directly responsible for BOTH my academic and career success
I am Dr. Grace Ebun Olugbodi and my mission is to help 10 million children prevent or overcome Maths anxiety.
Although I started off struggling with how to excel at maths my story changed dramatically and I began winning both Maths & Further Maths prizes throughout my secondary school.
This led to my 1st Class Honours in my first degree, Computing and my pursuit and acquisition of my second degree, MSc in Financial Markets.
My PHD is an Honorary degree bestowed on me by The London Metropolitan University due to my impact in the field of Creative Child Education- the very thing that has brought me to you today!
After school I worked as a Software Programmer for many years, worked in a number of top UK Investment Banks in London but later resigned to start my edtech company BEGENIO which makes products that helps kids fall in love with maths.
The flagship product ‘Race To Infinity’ is a board game (with the app version launching soon) that has been researched successfully by The University of Greenwich, UK.
The study revealed some promising data that playing Race To Infinity for just 15-30 mins per week was able to help children develop maths fluency AND strengthen their reasoning and problem solving abilities.
There is nothing the study revealed that I didn’t already know because Race To Infinity has been garnering rave reviews from teachers and parents in the UK and the US for many years.
We have a 4.5 out of 5 score on Amazon and 73% of those are 5 star ratings while we have 4.3 out of 5 score on Amazon UK and 67% of those are 5 star ratings
These reviews are mostly from parents just like you.
Please take a look at a few reviews and awards below;
Why most kids detest maths
This led me to create Race To Infinity- the first and still the ONLY game specifically designed to enhance the maths skills of 6-12yr old children, while also boosting critical thinking, analytical skills, maths fluency, creative thinking, reasoning and problem-solving.
Almost all other systems designed to help children with maths involve EVEN MORE maths; this would have been fine if not for the fact that these systems are ignoring the 2 core problems that children face in this respect:
1. Too many children find maths scary or boring. They believe it’s just designed to be difficult if not impossible to be good at it.
2. Most children do not find abstract concepts compelling; they have a need to make sense of things using their environment.
And since most of the time, maths isn’t taught in a way that it can be practicable or relatable to their daily lives kids have no interest in it
Most solutions to improving a child’s interest in maths fail because they are incapable of attending to these two realities…
A simple fun filled solution
Race To Infinity was carefully designed to address these 2 major problems and even more.
Being sponsored by Peabody Trust in the UK, we carried out trials and Race To Infinity game-playing sessions with primary schoolchildren in the UK, and made this stronger by observing one of the schools’ Multiplication Times Tables tests results scores before, during and at the end of a 12-week period of them playing Race To Infinity game once a week.
THE RESULTS WERE PHENOMENAL.
Sarah Killick, Maths Year 4 teacher of St Winifred’s School in
Lewisham Borough of London, did baseline Times Table tests with the children.
Playing the game once a week boosted almost all of their test scores.
See average scores increasing over time below
Here’s a promise that will change the life of your child!
That any child aged between 6-12yrs who plays Race To Infinity regularly at least once a week (only 15 – 30 minutes per time) will have a boost in both their affection and aptitude for Maths within 40 days.
If that’s something you would like your children to experience then Race To Infinity will make your day! Even when Race To Infinity is played by autistic children they are captivated and remain engaged
We tested this at the autistic school, THE RISE School in London, UK and also at special school for dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia at Shapwick School in Somerset, UK.
So We have Proof.
Now, take note that of all the subjects that children study in school, there isn’t any that bestows a halo on a child that gets the highest grades quite like mathematics.
Kids who do very well in maths are treated very differently, both by teachers and peers
Do you remember your own difficulties with maths from long ago?
If you had your own struggles with maths when you were a kid and did not overcome them, you might have forgotten how it affected you.
It probably brought feelings of frustration and inferiority towards those few kids who were exceptional at maths.
A lot of parents tell me they still have bad memories of maths and mental blocks where maths is concerned, such that they are afraid to help their children or do
not know how to help them.
Now, something can be done for your children in a short period of time and without any stress or hassle whatsoever.
Get them away from those TV screens and other entertainment screens and on to something that boosts their cognitive abilities.
I am not saying they should never be on screens or devices.
My children do use their screens.
The key is balance.
Maths can and should be fun to learn!
Now FUN may not be the word you would use to describe your own maths journey as a child.
Would it not be sad if your kids say the same thing? Instead of fun, learning maths has been associated with fear for generations sadly.
This is why throwing more lessons or yet another teacher alone rarely solves the problem.
The fear of maths overpowers all of that.
Also, kids find maths so abstract as it can rarely be related to real life.
Kids can’t always see how and where maths relates to themselves, therefore Race To Infinity solves this by creating a fun-filled environment.
As the game is played, children find themselves carried along by a sense of adventure and they start to unlock and utilize their arithmetic abilities to enable them advance in the gameplay.
The game requires every move be well thought out in a fun way without them realising it, to enable the player take the maximum advantage.
This promotes critical thinking and problem solving.
Finally, the children are able to find practical use for arithmetic as they can connect to the rewards associated with making the best mathematical choice to proceed in gameplay.
You can help your child overcome a dislike for maths
As long as the fear and loathing that kids have for maths is not dealt with, sadly, nothing can put a struggling child over.
If you struggled with maths in your childhood you may find yourself avoiding any scenario that requires even a basic knowledge of maths.
Or you might find that you don’t feel confident about maths when you have to do anything relating to maths in life.
Therefore children do not fail maths because they are not intelligent but because teachers do not have any or enough other tools to create a fun and engaging way of disarming that pervasive fear of maths.
Maths Kids will grow up to Rule The World
So can you GUARANTEE that your child’s maths teacher is truly
passionate about maths AND has the ability to transmit same to your child?
Most parents tell me they can’t.
Even if you can (meaning your child has a fantastic maths teacher, can you guarantee they will always have one?)
The key is to prevent other factors that can still affect your child’s relationship with maths in future, by hedging against them now and helping your child increase confidence now.
The wonder of Race To Infinity (and the other products of BeGenio) is the subconscious bypasses the child’s aversion for maths while requiring the child use their current arithmetic skills to deliver wins.
With time those abilities begin to strengthen without any pressure from a teacher or an anxious parent.
Added to this, your child is subconsciously learning decision making, choices and consequences, critical thinking and developing a knack for problem solving.
These all work together to prepare a child to excel in any field they so choose later.
The world is becoming more competitive and as more and more children shy away from maths the marketplace will continue to have no choice than to keep on giving juicy pay to those professionals that can use maths to solve real world problems.
Mastering Math is a simple way to boost self-esteem
If it was possible to do just one thing to get your children confident with maths, increasing their grades, loving maths and reducing mathematical anxiety, would you delay it?
Would you not rather act now to stop the emotional rollercoster they may be going through?
Many young people’s self-esteem issues begin from feelings of inadequacy concerning schoolwork and maths is the major culprit here.
I remember that while I was still struggling with maths as child under 10 years old, I used to seethe “maths kids” as special and myself as ordinary
