What Happened in Hollywood

Maths anxiety is rife. It’s rife among both children and adults alike, including top people in their industry, financial executives and celebrities. It’s like a disease that is still spreading like wildfire, generation after generation, eating up countries and economies, parents and children. With your help, we can cure this disease. Would you like to help? What can you do to help us? I call on you to do the little you can, just in your home and extended family and friends, with your child – your grandchild is enough. If you want to go further, we appreciate you even more.

I was in Hollywood, Los Angeles recently and guess what? It’s the same problem. Many of the people I met there said they hated Maths with a passion. They said “I just didn’t get it”, some said “I didn’t have a natural ability for it”, as if God just didn’t give that to some of us. Some gave up a long time ago, some gave up and now want help again – they want to “un-give up”.  Some truly believe there must be a way to learn this fundamental Maths stuff. I was very happy though, that many of them want to learn so that they can support their children and empower their children (after all, they must life this live by themselves). Many just want to be more empowered to make better decisions, think more analytically and ultimately to be more successful and make more money. I found myself really drawn more than ever and wanting to help them.

It was funny that everyone I told what I did had a pleasantly surprised kind of look, or a “wow that’s amazing” kind of look. I wonder why. Maybe it’s because of the combination of the fact that it’s Maths, plus it’s for children, plus it’s a board game, plus they probably felt I don’t look like a Maths geek.  You’ve got to love Americans. Actually, it’s a similar reaction to what I mostly get in the UK and Africa. Everywhere really. Makes me chuckle every time I think about it or it comes to my mind. Something was different about the reaction in the States though.

An 82-year-old man who was in my hotel, who is a top HR Executive in a top firm, told me he didn’t know why they were being taught all those things that you would never use in life! I said “who said that?”. Whoever said you wouldn’t use them? It’s clear that these problems have been around for a long time. It’s about time we did something to start to fix it. And this is why I’m calling on parents. This generation and subsequent ones would not get away with poor numeracy skills as there is so much more competition. Guard your child against poor Maths skills now – the sooner the better!

What do you think? Leave me a comment; I would love to hear from you!
