3 Reasons To Help Your Child Relate Maths To Real Life

One crucial thing we must always do is to look for ways to always relate math(s) to real life for your child. It will help them see the WHY of maths which helps them to focus on the reasons for taking it seriously.

Here are three reasons I want you to keep in mind:

1.    Words can express only so much; numbers and their mathematical relationships are the wonderful ways in which we understand where we live and how we do things. So many aspects of our daily lives are quantifiable. One really can’t communicate very much without using numbers!

2.    Doing math(s) also helps the brain protect our capacity for memory and develop pathways to excel at computational thinking. Personally, I find it fascinating to have a math(s) problem and then go about solving it. Not only is this a great exercise for my mind, but it produces a lovely, enjoyable euphoria that comes from solving a puzzling problem correctly.

3.    Understanding math(s) and gaining confidence doing math(s) follows the same principle. It is a step-wise process: bit by bit, precept by precept, skill by skill, until your child grows stronger and more confident, like every sports player does, and before long, they will have gobbled the whole problem up.

Do these reasons make sense to you?

Most importantly, I am going to help you to find out how to make maths fun. More on that next time…
